OCALA, Fla. (AP) – A 54-year-old man suspected of killing a woman at a Walmart store in North Florida was hospitalized for the past weekend, was hospitalized for gunshot wound, announced the police.
Ocala police said in an article on Facebook that David Johnson on Saturday killed Carli Cronin, 30, in a spousal dispute in the garden of a Walmart in the city.
Witnesses told the police that Cronin had shouted for help before she was shot repeatedly. Employees called 911 and tried to intervene. Investigators said that Johnson had left the store by bike after the shot.
A SWAT team surrounded a house a few kilometers later and evacuated neighbors before Johnson was found inside with a self-inflicted bullet wound, authorities said. Police said that he had been taken to the hospital and that he should not survive his injuries.
Scotty Ballard told Ocala Star-Banner that Cronin was his roommate and that Johnson and Cronin had been together for about nine months, but were not together now.
Ballard told the newspaper that the couple had been fighting all day Saturday because he wanted to get back together and she had not done it. Ballard said Johnson had threatened Cronin, saying that at one point, he "was gone" for her.
Saturday afternoon, Ballard and Cronin went to get furniture for their apartment in Walmart. Ballard stated that he was at an alley at the time the shooting occurred.
Johnson's family gathered at the Ocala Regional Medical Center on Saturday night. His brother, Kenneth Johnson, told the newspaper that his brother had changed his life, adding that he "was not that monster, but a broken-hearted man."
Kenneth Johnson said that Cronin was "the true love" of his brother's life.
