MIDWOOD, Brooklyn –
A man is in custody after allegedly throwing his 4 year old brother from a building in Brooklyn, killing the child.
Police responded to a 911 call around 3:30 am Saturday on 2400 block of Nostrand Avenue in Midwood and found the 4-year-old boy unconscious and unresponsive in the yard of a building.
The child, identified as Shimron Smith, was declared dead on the scene, police said.
Officials said Shawn Smith, the victim's 20-year-old brother, was in police custody and had admitted to throwing his brother out of the roof of the building.
The victim and cousin of the suspect told Eyewitness News that Shawn Smith was suffering from a mental illness and had already been hospitalized and treated for schizophrenia.
An investigation is underway.
