DETROIT (WXYZ) – A Detroit Popeyes Louisiana kitchen is closed after a video claiming to show deplorable conditions inside the restaurant has become viral on social networks.

Shakita Jones started working at Popeyes on Gratiot Avenue near 7 Mile Road a few weeks ago, and she said that she immediately started expressing concerns about what she said were disgusting conditions that included cockroaches, poorly washed kitchen bowls, and other troubling issues.

Jones says she decided to go live on Facebook after she was told to walk on cockroaches and not to scream when she saw one.

"When I filled in this request, he did not say we had cockroaches, you have to kill them, you have to walk on them," Jones said. "He did not say that they had dead flies on the ice."

Detroit Department of Health teams are on site Tuesday. The department issued the following statement about the situation:

The Detroit Department of Health's food safety team is currently on-site and investigating Popeye's location at 14180 Gratiot. The location is temporarily closed and the Popeye management is cooperating with the health department and is following all cleaning protocols.

The Detroit Health Department will continue to work with Popeye's location and will work to ensure that the restaurant is in compliance prior to reopening.
