PORTLAND, OR – The Black Friday craze in Portland and surrounding areas is upon us. If you have managed to prevent you from buying this new TV, laptop, quilt or coffee maker, your patience is about to bear fruit. The biggest shopping party of the season is technically supposed to be the Friday after Thanksgiving, but some bargain hunters can start their quest on the day of Turkey.
Most participating stores will open at around 6am or 7am Friday, but Walmart Kohl's and JC Penney will remain open during Thanksgiving, according to BlackFriday.com.
And for a good reason. According to Adobe Analytics, US retailers recorded a record $ 7.9 billion on Black Friday. That represented a jump of nearly 18% over 2016. And while the popularity of online shopping and Cyber Monday has been steadily increasing in recent years, many people are still choosing a few hundred dollars. In fact, in-store Black Friday in-store traffic has barely slowed and declined by less than 1% in 2017.

If you are ready to face the chaos at Walmart, you can get started with good deals. Who needs to wait for Santa when a Roku TV Smart TV Class 4K 65-inch could cost you $ 398? Walmart's other great deals include $ 99 for a hoverboard or Google Home Hub, $ 599 for an HP Pavilion gaming laptop, $ 249 for an iPad and $ 69 for a Vivitar Aero-View video drone.
At JC Penney, you can get 50% off Barbie, Nerf and Disney toys and up to 80% off quality jewelry such as earrings and rings. See you Thursday at the store and you could get a coupon worth up to $ 500.
If you're looking for the best value, a recent study of the personal finance website, WalletHub, revealed that JC Penney offers some of the best deals in the country. The average reduction this year is 65%, compared to only 30% for Walmart, 29% for Amazon and 29% for Best Buy. The site indicates that the best offers include an outdoor shelter for $ 1,999, a gaming laptop for $ 1,000 and a noise barrier for $ 100.
