The Portland police opened an investigation into a shooting that took place Sunday morning in downtown Portland and killed one person.
The police office has published little details about the shooting, but the social media of the family and friends of the victim are filled with "R.I.P." messages for the family of a 27-year-old man named Patrick Kimmons, known as "Pat Pat".
The shooting took place shortly after 3 am, near Southwest Third Avenue and Harvey Milk (Stark) Street.
Central City officers who patrolled the area heard gunshots and "hired" someone and the police fired shots, according to officer Natasha Haunsperger, a spokesman. of the police.
Police shot dead a man, confirmed Haunsperger. The man killed by the police had been involved in a shootout that allegedly injured two other men, police said.
Haunsperger did not specify the number of officers involved. Police said they had recovered a firearm and closed several streets in the city center.
An officer said that someone had fallen and was bleeding from the hip at Third and Stark, and a doctor was called to answer.
Later, a private car dropped two gunshot victims at the Legacy Hospital and Emanuel Health Center. One of the victims was injured in the chest and was operated on, according to the police.
Friends and relatives of a Portland man posted repeated "R.I.P" messages on Facebook Kimmons. His Facebook page says that Kimmons, who had gone to Jefferson High School, was a baker for Dave's Killer Bread.
Police said they would not identify the victim or the agents involved until Monday.
Kimmons was the victim of a shooting in April 2014 near the northeast 122nd Avenue and Sandy Boulevard, which the police later described as linked to a gang.
"Praying for strength, comfort and love for friends, family, children and mothers," she wrote on Facebook.
Kimmons wrote on his Facebook page in July: "Trying to work on myself as a man and also to raise my children properly.Nobody has ever said that being a parent would be easy, but I devote my time to my kids because I want to teach them that they can be everything they want in life In addition to being a stripper, selling drugs, gangbanging, etc. I've seen so much in life and I've gained so much knowledge in life that I want to show them a better route to follow so that they can have more of success in life and not having to struggle (.) Kimmons had previously been convicted of witness tampering in 2010, delivery of cocaine and possession of a firearm in 2011, and ordered not to have contact with gangs in each of these cases.
By mid-afternoon on Sunday, about 40 people had gathered in the downtown area, near the scene of the shooting, lighting commemorative candles, leaving flowers and writing chalk tributes on the sidewalk and the street. street. One woman, who did not want to identify, said the group planned to hold a vigil on the spot "until the candles are lit."
