High winds, possibly caused by a tornado, destroyed trees and damaged several houses in Frenchtown Township on Tuesday night.

FRENCHTOWN CANTON – Strong winds, possibly caused by a tornado, knocked down trees and damaged several homes in Frenchtown Township on Tuesday night.

Three houses were affected and a family with children on Toben Road. would have sought help with the Monroe County section, the American Red Cross.

The trees in the area were also knocked down. Power outages have been reported in the area. Other areas affected included neighborhoods near N. Stony Creek and Reinhardt Rds.

The national meteorological service issued a tornado warning around 8:30 pm with a possible funnel cloud spotted near Maybee. The storm that crossed the region headed north-east.

Reports from the Storm Observer at the National Weather Service in Detroit show that a "possible tornado" has been reported in the township of Frenchtown. The trees and wires fell in the township of Frenchtown, according to the notice.

There are power outages along S. Stoney Creek Road. west of the US-24.

was located near Flat Rock, moving northeast at 30 mph.

shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Pity

roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is

likely.

This tornado storm will remain mainly in rural areas of

northeast of Monroe County, including the following locations …

Newport, South Rockwood, Estral Beach and Rockwood.

According to the alerts, the warning concerning the national meteorological service was issued for "the rotation indicated by the radar".

The storm trail was to include Carleton and Flat Rock; also Newport, South Rockwood, Estral Beach and Rockwood.

Monroe County was part of an area considered to be susceptible to extreme weather tonight.
