A tornado warning was briefly issued for parts of Marion and Linn counties Monday after a firefighter reported seeing what appeared to be a twister in the area, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.
The emergency responder reported seeing a dark funnel cloud touch down in a field east of Jefferson around 3:35 p.m., said Tyree Wild, a weather service meteorologist. It was then reported to be moving east at about 15 mph.
No injuries or damages have been reported.
The tornado warning was in effect for southwestern Marion County and north central Linn County until 4 p.m. and included the towns of Stayton, Sublimity and Scio. The storm suspected in the funnel cloud’s appearance has since weakened and the warning was lifted after 4 p.m.
Wild said an investigation is unlikely if there are no damages.
Monday’s tornado warning comes after a confirmed tornado touched down this weekend in North Portland. No one was injured. The winds knocked over three empty trailers, damaged a roof, and snapped some trees.
