ROANOKE, Go. – 17:00 – Appalachian Power is continuing its work to restore power in the areas hit by heavy gusts of wind on Saturday night. More than 1,000 are without electricity in Grayson and Floyd counties. Otherwise, most other failures are very irregular.

12:25 PM Update: A spokeswoman for the Appalachians of Power said that more than 14,000 customers in Virginia still did not have access to power. The teams were working to determine the total impact on transmission stations and distribution lines on Sunday morning.
Most parts of Virginia are expected to see power restored later Sunday night. Where the damage is most severe, the restoration could extend to Monday, said the spokeswoman.
There are 1,601 people without power in Floyd County, 1,588 in the Roanoke area and 1,266 in Montgomery County.

At midnight, approximately 8,000 Appalachian Power customers no longer have power in the WSLS viewing area. According to the AEP website, there is no estimate of the time at which the power will be restored.
Strong gusts of wind will continue all night, which means that the threat of sparse breakdowns will continue as well.
According to StormTeam 10, the winds only weaken Sunday night.
