NEW ORLEANS – Thousands of Entergy New Orleans guests have lost energy for more than an hour after a cat entered a substation on Monday.

Interruptions began around 8:30 am Monday morning, according to the Entergy New Orleans. The current was restored around noon, the company tweeted.

A statement from the company says that a cat has entered a substation and caused a flash when he touched the equipment. The animal has not survived.

"It is unusual for a cat to enter a substation and contain protective devices. When this occurs, the animals unfortunately do not survive the high voltage contact" the company said in a tweet.

Entergy New Orleans said the company is installing protective devices to keep animals out of the equipment to protect animals and prevent power outages.
