Prince Harry and Meghan receive royal welcome in Fiji

SUVA, Fiji – Prince Harry and his wife Meghan arrived on Tuesday in the island of Fiji. eighth day of their tour in the South Pacific. They were first greeted by a guard of honor at Nausori International Airport before heading to a park filled with Albert where they were offered a whale tooth and ceremonial drink: kava.

But the highlight of the day came later when members of the village of Nakelo, Fiji, performed their war dance, reports CBS News correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti. The traditional dance known as meke has been passed down from generation to generation. In fact, this whole ceremony is identical to the one that took place here 65 years ago. The program at Albert Park was completed by warriors running the club and spear dances, almost scary reminders of their warrior past.

We were in 1953 when Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip arrived on the island as part of their first tour of the Commonwealth. On this island in the South Pacific, the Queen's popularity forged decades ago has been passed on to her next generation.
