There has been one constant throughout U.S. history: Americans’ fascination with the British monarchy.
Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897 was celebrated “with almost as much enthusiasm in America as in the British Empire,” historian Adam I.P. Smith has pointed out, “while the Queen’s death in 1901 was marked by tolling bells and days of mourning across the United States.”
More recently, “Royal fever” rampaged through the former colonies in 1985 when Prince Charles and Princess Diana toured the U.S. (At a White House gala, Diana famously took a turn on the dance floor with “Saturday Night Fever” star John Travolta.) In 2011, hordes of reporters followed Prince William and his wife Catherine when they visited the U.S.
The fascination continues, thanks in part to the popular TV series “The Crown,” which follows the triumphs and travails of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip. But who are the most popular living British royals right now in Great Britain? The Shropshire Star points out that the online polling site YouGov recently sought to find out.
Below are Britain’s most popular royals:

Prince Charles’ younger brother, a Royal Navy veteran, saw action during the 1982 Falklands War. In the 1990s he contributed to the royal family’s publicity woes when he and Sarah Ferguson broke up amid splashy reports of extramarital affairs. He is currently the executive chairman of the Outward Bound Trust.

The 30-year-old daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson caught the public’s attention in 2008 when she spent the summer working as a personal shopper at Selfridges in London. Ten years later, she remains a staple of the British tabloids and various glossy magazines because she hasn’t yet settled down. “Princess Beatrice spotted with a new mystery man in L.A.,” blared Hello Magazine earlier this year.

The Queen’s youngest child is tenth in line to the throne. The 54-year-old, who caused a mini-scandal in 1987 when he quit the Royal Marines, doesn’t get much attention these days.
