During their first royal tour as a newlyweds, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, have greeted supporters at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. But an elderly woman in a wheelchair stood out from the prince.
Her name is Daphne Dunne and the 98-year-old has already met Prince Harry twice. Dunne and the prince met for the first time during his trip to Sydney in 2015, reports the Associated Press. Three years ago, Prince Harry noticed Dunne as he greeted the fans in front of the Sydney Opera House. He noticed a Victoria Cross medal around Dunne's neck and headed for the elderly woman to sign him honor.
A Victoria Cross is one of the highest honors of the British Honors System. Dunne says the medal was awarded to her first husband, Albert Crowne, after his death in Papua New Guinea in 1945 during the Second World War.
Prince Harry and Dunne saw each other last year on a special day for the official launch of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018.
This time, Dunne met the prince's new wife, Meghan. On Monday, the royal couple announced that it was waiting for their first baby.
"Beautiful, absolutely, they were lovely," said the war widow to the press after meeting with the royal couple on Tuesday.
Prince Harry and Meghan had good luck for 20 minutes on Tuesday, but spent much more time greeting the crowd. They talked with many people and accepted flowers and cards from enthusiastic fans.
From Sydney, the royal couple will visit an agricultural community on Wednesday to talk to farmers about the consequences of climate change.
