The death of a 52-year-old American woman who fell from the upper deck of a Princess Cruises ship sailing in the Caribbean on Tuesday is being treated as a possible murder case by authorities, USA Today reports. An Aruba-based media outlet reported the woman fell to her death after she was seen “struggling with a man who was seen choking her.” Another outlet from Aruba said authorities were investigating the case as a possible murder. The 3,600-passenger Royal Princess was reportedly sailing between the islands of Curacao and Aruba at the time of the incident. Princess Cruises confirmed to USA Today that a 52-year-old woman died on the ship early Tuesday but would not discuss further details. The company also said the death was “reported to the local authorities who met and boarded the ship upon arrival” and stated the “cause of death is not yet known at this time.” One individual who claimed to be a passenger posted in an online message board that Aruba police and “forensics technicians” boarded the ship soon after it arrived in Aruba, and passengers were not allowed off the ship until after authorities arrived. The ship is reportedly on a seven-day trip to the southern Caribbean after leaving from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is due back to the U.S. on Saturday.
