Priyanka Chopra invests in the Bumble dating app

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra will invest in the Bumble Dating app as the service prepares to expand to her native country later this year.

She will also act as an enforcement advisor – forcing women to take the first step – for her launch in India.

Bumble's expansion comes as companies strove to make sure that women feel safe using dating apps in India.

The actress is the latest in a series of celebrities to take a part in a technology company.

Bumble said that Chopra would become "partner, advisor and investor" of the technology company.

"I've always thought that investing in women was the key to social transformation and economic growth," Chopra said in a statement released by Bumble.

"Women want love, they want friendship and want to find a career, and that's the uniqueness of what Bumble offers," she added. Its manager, Anjula Acharia, is also Bumble's advisor.

After becoming one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema, the actress broke into Hollywood with the Quantico TV show and the Baywatch movie.

Chopra has also recently invested in an American coding school.

Fears of safety

Bumble's plan to expand in India stems from growing security concerns related to the use of dating apps.

With high-profile cases of sexual violence against women in some parts of the country, fears about security have increased.

Rival Tinder is testing a new feature in India that allows users to send the first message to a match. The company said that she wanted women to feel safe and comfortable.

Mr. Bumble announced in the coming weeks that he will introduce specific features to enhance security protection, which already include photo verification and moderation of photos and profiles by a team of over 4,000 people.

Chopra joins a list of celebrities who embark on technology. Ashton Kutcher has invested in various companies including AirBnb and Spotify, while Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyonce and Tyra Banks are among others who would have supported technology projects.
