Probiotics are useless, says new study

Probiotics are generally considered "good" bacteria that work wonders for your digestive health. They are taken by millions of people around the world to improve their intestinal health, whether in the form of Greek yogurt, buttermilk, kimchi or other sources. And there have been many studies in the past that have talked about the health benefits of probiotics. But all seems to have disappeared because new research has been done to ignore "healthy" probiotics.

In a study conducted at the Weizmann Institute of Science, the researchers made a probiotic cocktail by mixing 11 good common bacteria, including strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. The mixture was administered to 25 healthy people for one month. The participants were then sedated and samples were taken from the small and large intestines of the volunteers.

Another small study was conducted by the same scientists to analyze the effects of taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment.

In the first study, researchers found that in half of the volunteers, the good bacteria entered the mouth and came straight to the other side without bringing any benefit as such. In the remaining half, the microorganisms remained briefly but were squeezed out by existing microbes. In the second study, the researchers noted a delay in the recovery of healthy bacteria after the introduction of probiotics after the antibiotic dose.

Posted in the journal Cell, the researchers said that everyone can not benefit from the consumption of probiotics because everyone responds differently. While some people may hold probiotics in their intestines, the bodies of others allow them to pass unattended.

Although they have established that the benefits vary from one person to another, they also stated that probiotics must be tailored to the needs of the individual.
