MORE (R-N.Y.) In November.

The Associated Press called the race for Balter at 22:18. EDT.

Balter, a progressive activist who teaches at Syracuse University, defeated former US Navy officer Juanita Perez Williams in Tuesday primary. She will now face Katko in one of the most popular races of the Democrats this cycle.

While Democrats believe it's a win-win, they were divided on who would be the best candidate to take over the siege and bring them closer to winning the majority in the House. These differences pitted the local and national Democrats against each other as they argued for their preferences.

Balter had supported the support of four local democratic county committees. Yet weeks before the May deadline, the National Democrats recruited Perez Williams in the race. The former prosecutor ran unsuccessfully for the mayor of Syracuse last year.

Local Democratic leaders have accused the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) of interference in the primary.

While not an official endorsement, the DCCC has added Perez Williams to its "Red to Blue" program, which provides financial and organizational support. And the committee helped her to gather petition signatures to participate in the vote.

The main one in the 24th District is the latest example of National Democrats looking to navigate the crowded primaries in an election cycle where there is a wave of energy.
