ANCHORAGE (KTUU) Traditionally, Halloween decorations are black and orange, occasionally some purple and lime green to mix it up, but now the color teal is getting added to the list.
But it’s not a traditional decoration color, it’s for the Teal Pumpkin Project, which launched in 2014. You put a teal-colored pumpkin on your porch to let kids know you have something to offer them other than potentially allergy-containing food.
It’s a way to show trick-or-treaters with food allergies you have something to give them other than food.
It could be stickers, glow sticks or even toy vampire fangs. One in 13 children has a food allergy in the U.S. and the alternatives allow those children to avoid potential triggers for their allergies.
No teal pumpkin? No problem. There are several different flyers available to print for free online. You can also put it in the hands of the kids by asking if they’d like candy or a prize.
