A man from Logan was indicted Friday in US District Court for using a biological toxin as a weapon and injuring several senior US officials. According to court documents, he sent letters to other world leaders.
Among the presumed targets of William Clyde Allen III were President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary James Mattis, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
According to an indictment filed in Federal Court, William Clyde Allen III sent the letters from the Logan Post Office with his name and return address clearly marked on each of them.
Each letter included castor particles that had been tested positive for ricin in many tests, as well as a note stating "The stock of bean powder powder Missile".
"Allen III also informed that he had sent other letters with the same content to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Queen of England, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Secretary of State. Air Force (whose name he did not recall), "according to the court record. .
During an interview with special agents after he was evicted from his home on Wednesday, Allen reportedly said he bought the beans on eBay in December of last year, just in case the Third World War would break out.
A search on his eBay account has verified two purchases, one of 100 beans and another of 30 beans.
Allen "believes" that he has not used more than those sent by mail.
Allen, a former naval sailor, was scheduled to appear in US court on Friday morning for his first court appearance.
The FBI placed Allen in custody at his Logan residence on Wednesday afternoon and investigated the house in search of biological agents.
