One in nine men is diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and one in 41 dies. Just under three million men in the United States who have previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer are alive today, and some survivors are closer than we think. One of the best tests for determining prostate cancer is the prostate-specific antigen test. Health professionals claim that it is effective in determining cancer, but several tests are needed to cross-check them.
According to the American Cancer Society, 90% of all patients with localized prostate cancer receive surgery, radiation or drug treatment despite the high risk of treatment-related complications. There is also concern that the detection of prostate cancer will lead to over-treatment.
