Upper East Side, Manhattan (WABC) –

Police made an arrest as part of a violent clash that erupted in front of a Republican club following a speech by the founder of a controversial far right group.

Geoffrey Young, 38, a member of the "Proud Boys" group, is accused of riot and attempted assault.

He is one of a dozen suspects suspected by the police of having participated in a series of fights following a speech by Gavin Mcinnes, founder of the Proud Boys, who describe themselves as " western chauvinists ".

The video shows men throwing punches, hitting a person on the ground and chanting "USA" outside the Metropolitan Republican Club, in the Upper East Side.

Suspects wanted for riot and attempted assault were identified as nine members of the Proud Boys and three members of Antifa, who, according to police, surrounded the block to continue the altercation after the police initially arrested him.

The authorities claim that attempts to keep the opposing members apart at the end of the speech were thwarted when masked members of the Antifa protest group looped around the block and intercepted Proud Boys escorted by police.
