MIAMI (AP) – Watch out for Fido's grocery store, stick it in your shopping cart and pass it off as an "animal assistance". The Publix Florida grocery chain is cracking down
The grocery store has posted new signs to the store stating that only trained assistance animals to help people with disabilities are allowed in the shop. No assistance animals are allowed to sit or ride in shopping hampers.
A spokesman for Publix told Orlando Sentinel that it was still the policy, but said the store was deciding to post the signs. have become a controversial issue as several states have tried to crack down on people potentially abusing federal disability laws. Growing complaints have also emerged as more people have tried to sneak pets onto airlines in the guise of service dogs.
