Punch in Baylor-Iowa fight

Things got heated in the third quarter of Baylor's match against Iowa State.

With the Iowa State attack and a 17-0 lead, Cyclones' wide Hakeem Butler attacked Baylor's Blake Lynch when he blocked the game.

Butler kept Lynch down with a knee in his throat. Naturally, this caught the attention of Lynch's teammates and things escalated.

In the midst of chaos, Iowa State running back David Montgomery attacked Baylor's Greg Roberts and pulled him out of the fray. Roberts took a swing at Montgomery, and Montgomery came back to him. Both players were ejected.

Here is another angle where you can clearly see Montgomery getting revenge.

Although Roberts and Montgomery are the only two players ejected (Butler probably ducked a ball for triggering the disaster), both teams were sentenced to penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct. Yes, both teams. The complete list. This meant that if another player was given an unsportsmanlike penalty in the game, he would be automatically ejected.

Because of the fight, Charlie Brewer, QB of Baylor, was later ejected

Indeed, it happened to Baylor's quarterback, Charlie Brewer. After a quarter shift, Brewer was upset that an Iowa State defender would not be penalized for beating him, as he slipped to surrender.

From there, Brewer got up and went straight to an official. He said something that triggered a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Because the entire Baylor team – Brewer figured out – was seen imposing a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct after the fight, so it was technically the second half of the match for Brewer. This resulted in an eviction.

At this point in the match, Baylor led 28-14 and was looking to reduce the deficit to one point. But because Brewer was disqualified, the Bears had to turn to Jalan McClendon. Four pieces later (all McClendon's incomplete passes), Baylor returned it.

The Bears would then recover the ball, but McClendon could not get them into the end zone. The Iowa State then won 28-14 to improve to 6-3 (5-2 Big 12) and win the bowl's eligibility. It was the fifth consecutive win for the Cyclones.

Baylor dropped to 5-5 (3-4 Big 12) with the loss. Baylor still has two games – TCU and Texas Tech – to reach a bowl.
