BANGOR,. Maine. (WABI) – Bangor's bars, restaurants and pubs raised funds for Alzheimer research, programs and awareness on Thursday night.

All this is part of the second edition of Purple Pub-Crawl.

Ten companies participated in making purple-colored beverages such as cocktails and beers.

We are told that a dollar for every beverage sold is for the Alzheimer's Association of Maine.

A table has also been set up in the West Market Square with educational materials.

Ben Smith said, "Alzheimer's disease is a widespread disease in this community and in the state. In the United States, it is the leading cause of death, the only one among the top 10 killers without treatment or preventive treatment. I think if you look around and ask around, everyone has a connection to this disease.

We are told that it is a kickoff from the East Maine walk to end Alzheimer 's disease. It's October 20th.
