The NRA seems to be short of content. The organization has turned to a set of cultural issues that have nothing to do with guns. On Friday, Dana Loesch used the "Final Cut" segment of her one-hour show Implacable take control of the long-standing children's program Thomas and his friends. The segment was crowned with a disturbing image of Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends wearing white Ku Klux Klan hoods over the burning railroad tracks.

How did we get here? For the 22nd season of the show, which will premiere this month on Nick Jr., the titular train will travel to locations around the world, where he will meet new characters. Some of these new trains will be women, which was Strike One for Loesch. "They decided that the next stop would be the city of virtue," she said. "Thomas the Tank is now bringing gender limits by adding girls' trains. Seriously."
One of the new trains, named Nia, is Kenyan, playing on the global theme of the new season of the show. Strike two "It's really strange for me," said Loesch. "I watched Thomas and his friends and I see gray and blue. Do I understand that Thomas and his trains were white? They all have gray faces. How do you bring ethnic diversity? They had to paint what I consider to be an African motif on Nia's engine side? How do you bring ethnic diversity to a show that literally has no ethnicity … because it's trained? They do not even have skin pigmentation!
Anthropomorphizing inanimate objects to attract children is a device used for decades in cartoons. None of these objects turned into characters with no skin pigmentation, nor any other human feature. They do in the drawings because they are cartoons. That's the goal. Accusing one of the most harmless children's shows in the recent memory of the liberals because they added new characters with a shade of gray different from the one with which Loesch grew up is a way really strange and painful it is she who tries to accomplish with this segment.
If your forehead was not already furrowed enough, she then imagined Thomas and his friends with a racist past for which the show may feel compelled to experiment, hence the introduction of a Kenyan character. It was a strange trip but we finally succeeded: cartoon trains wearing KKK hoods.
"I hate everything," Loesch concluded.
New Thomas and his friends Characters had been introduced last month and on Friday the show announced its partnership with the United Nations, which under the Trump administration became an enemy of the conservatives. The idea of exploring other cultures, looking at nature, gender equality, recycling and other issues that collaboration is about to promote has also taken shape.
