AUSTIN, Texas – Texan quarterback Sam Ehlinger left Saturday night the Longhorns' 24-10 win over the 16th state of Iowa, injured in the shoulder. He did not return.

Ehlinger, a sophomore who debuted all games for the No. 15 Texas this season, was hit hard by Iowa State Security's Greg Eisworth on his right shoulder as he tried to dive for a first run at the end of the second quarter. Ehlinger went to the locker room shortly afterwards for an exam and his coach, Tom Herman, said that Ehlinger had a "contusion of AC" in his shoulder.

Herman explained that the X-rays were negative and showed no fracture. Ehlinger will perform an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury.

This is not the first time that Ehlinger is injured in the shoulder. He suffered a sprained shoulder during Texas' 23-17 win over Baylor on Oct. 13. He left the game in the first quarter, but he recovered in time to start the next match of the Longhorns on October 27 against Oklahoma State.

Herman said that Ehlinger had begged the coach "hard enough" to return to the match and that Ehlinger had stated that he thought he could run and hit, but that throws more than 10 -15 yards would be weak because of the pain in which he was.

Texas saves the quarter Shane Buechele played the entire second half in relief for Ehlinger and had 10 assists in 10 passes for 89 yards and one touchdown. Herman congratulated Buechele for his preparation in the present moment.

"What a remarkable young man," said Herman. "It's the definition of a teammate … no one is wincing when he's jogging and [I’m] really proud of him. "
