The Queen has reportedly ‘had words’ with Harry, telling him his wife Meghan Markle ‘cannot have whatever she wants’.

The matriarch told her grandson, 34, the ‘difficult’ Duchess of Sussex could not wear a tiara she had her ‘heart set on’ for her wedding day, because of concerns the green emeralds ‘could have come from Russia’.

A source close to the family said: ‘There was a very heated exchange that prompted the Queen to speak to Harry. She said; “Meghan cannot have whatever she wants. She gets what tiara she’s given by me,’ according to the Sun.

Meghan, 37, has previously said she picked the tiara she wore on her big day after viewing the Queen’s ‘options’ at Buckingham Palace.

The source added: ‘The Queen also questioned why Meghan needed a veil for the wedding, given it was to be her second marriage,’ and added that ‘Meghan can be difficult’.

The duchess wore a diamond and platinum bandeau tiara made for Queen Mary in 1932 for her wedding.

A new book by reporter Robert Jobson claims Harry told staff ahead of their royal wedding day on 19 May: ‘What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.’

However, the Queen then asked to see Harry ‘privately’ and ‘put him firmly in place’, according to Mr Jobson.

The Charles at 70 book said the Queen and the former Suit’s actress had bonded over their love of dogs.

Meghan spoke about her choice of tiara as part of A Royal Wedding exhibition at Windsor Castle.

She said: ‘When it came to the tiara on the day, I was very fortunate to be able to choose this gorgeous art deco style bandeau tiara.

‘Harry and I had gone to Buckingham Palace to meet with Her Majesty The Queen to select one of the options that were there, which was an incredibly surreal day as you can imagine.

‘And that was the one that, I think, as we tried them on, stood out.’

Harry said the tiara was the one that ‘looked the best on you, without question’, adding that it was an ‘incredible loan’ by his grandmother.

Meghan married American film director Trevor Engelson, now 42, in 2011, but they divorced shortly after in 2013.
