MARA Quinn's only sister described her monumental loss after the brutal murders of her family in a suburb of Perth.
Today, Taryn is saddened by the loss of her sister, her mother, 74-year-old Beverley Quinn, and her nieces Alice and Beatrix, twin girls, and three-year-old Charlotte.
The police alleged that Mara's husband, Anthony Robert Harvey, aged 24, murdered the family at their home in Bedford, East Perth, on September 3 and 4.
Police say knives and a blunt instrument were used for the killings.
Melissa Bayle, a childhood friend of the Quinn family, told news.com.au that Beverley had raised her two daughters as a single mother in the Perth suburb of Morley.
"I'm devastated by (Taryn) because Mara and Bev were his family," Bayle told news.com.au.
"Apart from her husband and children, Taryn has no one, and that makes me sad because they were the best friends of the three, they were always there for each other. They were all so close.
Taryn described his loss yesterday in an official statement. She said that there were "no words to explain the emptiness and loss we feel".
She also talked about how her mother "would do anything" for her family.
"Beverley was a caring and caring mother and grandmother and was always there for her family. She was very family oriented and she loved her daughters and grandchildren and would have done anything for them, "wrote Taryn.
Beverley ran the canteen of Morley Elementary School, the school attended by her daughters for decades.
According to Ms. Bayle, the family was respected and loved in the community.
"Mara was such a loving person and I find it difficult to understand how she was successful because she does not deserve that, she is such a loving family," Ms. Bayle said.
"Bev always sat and knitted or made things and we played in the little house in the back of their house as children and we slept there.
"Bev always helped the community do things, she spent much of her life in Taryn and Mara because she was also a single mother. I do not have a bad word to say to them, they were very loved in the community, so caring and generous. "
In her statement, Taryn spoke lovingly about her sister and her three nieces.
"Mara loved being a mom and she loved her daughters. She was so proud of each of them and did a great job raising them. His daughters were his world, "Taryn writes.
"Charlotte was an energetic, bubbly and confident girl who loved people and enjoyed socializing.
"Alice was extroverted, adventurous and insolent, while Beatrix was sometimes a little calmer but gave the biggest hugs.
"This world is a sad place with the loss of these five beautiful people, but the sky has won five new angels."
Mr. Harvey appeared in court in Pilbara yesterday afternoon, a week after allegedly murdering his family.
Police allege that the 24-year-old father stayed in the Bedford house with the five bodies for several days before driving over 15 hours north of the Pilbara area and surrendering.
When Magistrate Joe Randazzo asked Mr. Harvey if he understood every murder charge, he simply said, "I understand."
WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said yesterday that the Bedford tragedy would have a devastating impact on immediate family members, friends and the community at large.
"Our condolences go out to family and friends of this family who must suffer unbelievable grief and disbelief at weekend events," Dawson said.
In May, a grandfather shot dead his wife, daughter and four children before committing suicide on a farm in Osmington, near Margaret River.
A little over two months later, a 19-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother, sister and brother in Ellenbrook, in north-east Perth.
"It's impossible not to take stock of the fact that in the past four months, 15 people have lost their lives in three separate family tragedies," Dawson told reporters.
"Everyone is concerned with this – we have been for a long time."
