Rabies is a disease that causes great anxiety. By just biting, this can affect an animal's nervous system and turn a healthy, friendly animal into a restless and frightening animal foaming at the mouth and resulting in death.
Despite all its dangers, however, most domestic animals are protected from rabies by a vaccine and the majority of animals that test positive are found in the wild.
In New York, a small number of positive cases of rabies are reported each year. Below, we have ranked each county in the state of New York based on the number of positive rabies cases in 2017, according to data from the NYS Department of Health. The number of animals tested for rabies was used to break ties. You will also find the three main animals with rabies in each county.
