The police opened an investigation after leaving overnight racist literature on the Cherry Hill lawn.

The printed messages contained racial epithets and expressed support for the Ku Klux Klan.

The items were left in plastic bags in several homes in the Old Orchard neighborhood of the community, police said Saturday.

One of the leaflets, attributed to a group called the Loyal White Knights, condemns interracial encounters, includes a racist cartoon and invites readers to "join the white revolution".

Cherry Hill Mayor Chuck Cahn issued a statement in which he pledged to locate the officials.

"This type of hate and fanaticism will not be tolerated in our city," said Cahn. "We will investigate this case until we identify the individuals responsible and will pursue them to the fullest extent of the law."
