Cool and rainy weather is expected for the next two days.

The National Weather Service said on Monday that the weather would be cloudy, with fragmented fog and scattered showers likely this afternoon, and peaks as early as the mid-1960s.

"The biggest risk for showers will be north of [Massachusetts] Pike, especially this afternoon, "forecasters said. "Wide range of temperatures expected today, because of the timing of this cold front. Temperatures close to normal for early October in the south of the pike, with temperatures below normal in the north. "

The showers are also likely to occur Monday evening, with a fragmented fog in the evening and temperatures in half of the 50, and "a minimal risk for a thunderstorm or two," forecasters said.

Tuesday is announced as Monday: cool and rainy.

"More of the same Tuesday, with some other ingredients in place for widespread rains," said the forcasters.

Tuesday will be cloudy with an irregular fog and a 50 percent chance of rain, with highs in the mid-60s.

"The greatest risk of precipitation will still be north of Pike, but more of southern New England is expected to receive it, especially in the afternoon," forecasters said.

The rain will continue Tuesday night, but drier weather should begin Wednesday.

The weather forecasts announce Wednesday a partially sunny sky, with peaks in the 60s and 70s in Boston.
