Luke Walton has two starting pointkeepers in his lineup and he leaves with the much more experienced veteran.
The Los Angeles Lakers fished point guard Lonzo Ball in second place in the 2017 NBA draft because they saw that he had a superstar potential; they wanted him to be the guy who would bring the Lakers back to "Showtime" status.
Ball might still have a chance to do it in the future, but that is not the case now.
After Ball had a somewhat disappointing rookie season, largely because of injuries, coupled with the fact that LeBron James has now brought his talents to the West Coast, it is obvious that Ball is not the good Lakers . At least now now.
That's why head coach Luke Walton has named veteran leader Rajon Rondo as the team's playmaker for the moment.
It might just be a temporary thing, while Ball is still recovering from an out-of-season surgery. But considering the fact that the Lakers are essentially a completely remodeled team, and that attack is now entirely around James, a veteran leader like Rondo is just a better fit.
Rondo, 32, has been in the league for more than a decade and has experience in the finals of the NBA. He played two finals with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and 2010 and won it for the first time.
As a member of these Celtics teams, he has played with superstars such as Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
It is safe to say that Rondo knows how to manage such a team. When at his best level, he is one of the best goalkeepers in the league; a playmaker who can distribute dish helps right and left.
This is what James needs with the Lakers team, and Rondo gives him much more than what Ball does inexperienced.
Lonzo's father, LaVar Ball, may not like this decision, but frankly, it does not seem like Walton, or the Lakers' president, Magic Johnson, really wants to.
