Rally in the NHL: Rantanen and his forwards replace the Flyers

Mikko Rantanen scored two goals, and Matt Nieto and Gabriel Landeskog each scored a goal to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-1 visit to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night.

Rantanen has at least one point in nine games played by Colorado this season. Nathan MacKinnon, who got help on Rantanen's goal, also has at least one point in nine games.

Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov blocked 37 shots for the team's third consecutive victory.

Nolan Patrick scored for the Flyers, who got 29 stops from Brian Elliott.

Capitals 5, Canucks 2

Alex Ovechkin scored two goals and added two assists in Washington's victory in Vancouver.

Ovechkin scored the winner and added an insurance marker as the defending Stanley Cup champions only won their second victory in five games.

John Carlson had a goal and two assists for the Capitals, who got a goal and a helping hand from T.J. Oshie. Evgeni Kuznetsov also scored and Nicklas Backstrom provided three assists. Troy Stecher and Sven Baertschi counted for the Canucks.

Jets 5, Blues 4 (OT)

Jacob Trouba's goal at 2:54 of overtime allowed Winnipeg to return to St. Louis. The Jets had to overcome their deficit twice to settle at home 5-0-1 this season. Winnipeg is 10-2-0 in its last 12 games against St. Louis.

Mark Scheifele led Winnipeg with two goals and two assists, and Ben Chiarot had a goal and an assist.

Down 3-1 at the second intermission, the Jets tied tied with two goals in the first four minutes of the third period. David Perron placed St. Louis 4-3 at 5:11, but Bryan Little tied the game at 18:20.

Hurricanes 3, red wings 1

Petr Mrazek made 20 saves against his former team, Micheal Ferland scored for the fourth consecutive game and Carolina ended a three-game losing streak with a win in Detroit.

Mrazek recorded 13 shutouts in six seasons with the Red Wings. He almost had another, because the Wings did not score until the third period.

Defender Justin Faulk scored his first goal of the season, while Ferland scored for the sixth time, a top in the team. Jordan Martinook added an empty goal net. Andreas Athanasiou scored for Detroit.
