Most people hear that Alabama seemed to be the most dominant team in college football in the first half of the season. The big question is: who is able to challenge the scarlet tide?
We had some extra responses during a chaotic Saturday in which four teams ranked in the top 10 lost APs: Georgia, West Virginia, Washington and Penn State.
Let's start with the most important development first: Washington fell into overtime over Oregon and, with that, the hopes of the Pac-12's college football playoffs also plummeted seriously. The Ducks would need to hold the table and have a lot of help to even try their luck among the top four.
Penn State now has two losses and their playoff hopes are essentially over as well.
In the Big 12, each team suffers at least one defeat.
That brings us to Georgia, which was not even competitive in the most anticipated game of the day against LSU. It was a bad look, but the Bulldogs' hopes for series are not ruined. If they run the table and earn the SEC, they are probably in it.
The same goes for LSU, a team that many were ready to bury after losing on the road to Florida last week. The Tigers dominated Georgia in every way, and their resume now includes victories over Miami, Auburn and Georgia – all ranked in the top 10 at the time.
So when you are browsing these rankings, remember that it's "what have you done for me lately?" a little bit the world, and what these teams did in week 7 has priority.
1. Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC)
Result week 7: Defeated Missouri 39-10
And after: Tennessee (Saturday, 3:30 pm ET)
The tide rolled again, but this time they were very scared when Tua Tagovailoa fell in the third quarter after aggravating her sprained knee. Alabama did not need him to finish his win over Missouri, but his health is the only major question mark about this team.
2. Ohio State (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten)
Result week 7: Defeated Minnesota 30-14
And after: in Purdue (Saturday, 7:30 pm ET, ABC)
The Buckeyes were not dominant and there is something to be disappointed. Ohio State could not run as he wished (92 yards total) and the defense dropped too much big games. As Urban Meyer said after the match, "we will have to fix some things".
Saturday turned out miserable for Georgia, West Virginia and Washington, and it was not easy for survivors such as Notre Dame and UCF.

3. Clemson (6-0, 3-0 ACC)

The Tigers were absent this weekend but took advantage of the defeat in Georgia. Their schedule is not comparable to that of Ohio State or Notre Dame, but they have the opportunity to change this next Saturday with a great home game against NC State, still undefeated.

Result week 7: Defeated Pitt 19-14
And after: Open week
Pitt gave the Irish who were fighting all they could, playing the ball control attack, while the QB Ian Book was troubled. Pitt led well in the third quarter before Notre Dame did just enough to win. Pitt has done a great job in slowing down running in Ireland, and the Irish will undoubtedly work on this task during the next week of opening.
5. LSU (6-1, 3-1 SEC)
Result week 7: Defeated Georgia 36-16
And after: State of Mississippi (Saturday, 7 pm ET, ESPN)
What a way to bounce back from a disappointing defeat in Florida, beating Georgia in all respects. The story of this victory revolves around how the Tigers played in the trenches, where they slowed down Georgia's powerful game while clearing the way for 275 yards. Despite losing to Florida, the Tigers have the most impressive wins of any team in the country.
6. Michigan (6-1, 4-0 Big Ten)
Result week 7: Defeated Wisconsin 38-13
And after: at Michigan State (Saturday lunch)
Jim Harbaugh suffered a lot for failing to win the big game in Michigan, so yes, the Wolverines beat Wisconsin, especially as they did. They dominated the match by accumulating 320 yards on the ground. This should boost confidence in them as they start another important game next weekend against Michigan State.
7. Texas (6-1, 4-0 Big 12)
Result week 7: Baylor defeated 23-17
And after: Open week
Adversity hit early in the Texas match against Baylor when quarterback Sam Ehlinger was injured in the shoulder. Shane Buechele took his place and the Longhorns struggled to catch up with the pace of the attack. But the defense played big, especially late, to help them keep their sixth consecutive victory.
8. Florida (6-1, 4-1 SEC)
Result week 7: Vanquished Vanderbilt 37-27
And after: Open week
Many wondered how the Gators would react on the road, with a quick start and such a big win. The early answer against Vanderbilt was: not good. But after a sharp altercation between the two coaches cleared benches, Florida seemed to wake up. The Gators have the wind in their sails at the start of the opening week, with Georgia on the horizon.
9. UCF (6-0, 3-0 American)
Result week 7: Defeated Memphis 31-30
And after: in ecu (Saturday, 19h ET, ESPN2)
The Knights were beaten in the first half against Memphis and rallied to win their 19th consecutive game, the longest streak of victories in the country. This is the first time in the series that the UCF has won by less than a touchdown. But McKenzie Milton said after the fact that it was important to show that he and his teammates knew how to react when things did not go as planned.
10. Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC)
Result week 7: Lost by LSU 36-16

The Bulldogs were completely taken aback on the offensive, as Jake Fromm was never comfortable and the pitching game never started. One has to wonder why Kirby Smart never went to Justin Fields to change things. Georgia must now be a winner to have a realistic chance to reach College Football Playoff.
11. Oklahoma (5-1, 2-1 Big 12)

And after: at the TCU (Saturday, noon ET, ABC)
Coach Lincoln Riley fired defensive coordinator Mike Stoops after the loss to Texas. So the Sooners had the week off to work under the new coordinator, Ruffin McNeill. The game at TCU is their first opportunity to show how much we can expect an improvement.
12. Oregon (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12)
Result week 7: Vanquished in Washington 30-27 (OT)
And after: Washington State (Saturday, 7:30 pm ET)
There is no doubt that Oregon needed its overtime victory over Washington, not only to reaffirm itself in its division, but also to show its value at the national level. Quarterback Justin Herbert deserves a bit of attention – he has been great all season. It's hard not to think about what might have happened to Stanford's loss.
13. West Virginia (5-1, 3-1 Big 12)
Result week 7: Lost in the state of Iowa 30-14
And after: Open week
It was as appalling as looking for mountaineers, who only managed 152 yards in a loss to Iowa State. Heisman's candidate, Will Grier, has pitched for just 100 yards and, after an open date, the hardest part of the schedule is coming.
14. Texas A & M (5-2, 3-1 SEC)
Result week 7: Defeated South Carolina 26-23

The only defeats of the Aggies on the season? Alabama and Clemson, two of the top four teams in the country. Jimbo Fisher did a good job in the first year by turning the Aggies into a more confident and physical team. Even after taking a 16-0 lead in South Carolina, they did not go down and played enough to win.
15. Kentucky (5-1, 3-1 SEC)

And after: vs Vanderbilt (Saturday, 7:30 pm ET, SEC Network)
The Wildcats have had a week off to leave behind their overwhelming defeat against Texas A & M, and they still have a chance to win the East. They return to Vanderbilt, who almost thwarted Florida on Saturday.
16. State NC (5-0, 2-0 ACC)

And after: Clemson (Saturday, 3:30 pm ET, ESPN)
The Wolfpack has taken leave this weekend, but it's fair to ask how much we know about this team as they approach their match next week against Clemson. Their non-conference match against West Virginia was canceled because of Hurricane Florence. their best victory is against Boston College.
17. Penn State (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten)
Week 7 result: Lost to Michigan State 21-17
And after: in Indiana (Saturday, 3:30 pm ET, ABC)
There may not be a team in the country with more heartbreaking losses than Penn State. The Nittany Lions lost the fourth quarter, both in the states of Ohio and Michigan. But the defeat against the Spartans was all the more painful as the Spartans had beaten up at this point of the season.
18. Washington (5-2, 3-1 Pac-12)
Result week 7: Lost in Oregon 30-27 (OT)
And after: vs Colorado (Saturday, 3:30 pm ET)
The Huskies had the opportunity to part with Oregon, but instead lost in overtime, essentially due to the loss of their playoff chances. It was a deeply disappointing performance, not only because of the consequences of the Pac-12, but also the loss to rival Ducks for the first time in three seasons.
19. Duc (5-1, 1-1 ACC)
Week 7 result: Victory on Georgia Tech 28-14
And after: vs Virginia (Saturday, 12:30 pm ET)
The Blue Devils beat Georgia Tech on Saturday, giving them four wins over Power 5 opponents and another victory over Army. Yes, they watched their game in a loss to Virginia Tech, but it's hard to miss out on quality opponents that they've beaten until now.
20. State of Mississippi (4-2, 1-2 SEC)

What is as follows: at LSU (Saturday, 7 pm ET, ESPN)
Even if the Bulldogs were absent, week 7 did not give them much favors. That's because their biggest win, against Auburn, does not seem as good after the Tigers' defeat to Tennessee. Nevertheless, the success of their season could be summed up at the next two weekends, with matches against LSU and Texas A & M.
21. Wisconsin (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten)
Result week 7: Lost in Michigan 38-13
And after: against Illinois (Saturday noon)
When the season started, it was said that Wisconsin could be a legitimate contender of the college football playoffs. But halfway through, the first half was a disappointment. Still, it's a team that controls his fate in the Big Ten West.
22. Iowa (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten)

The Hawkeyes easily managed Indiana and have now racked up over 400 yards in four straight games. Quarterback Nate Stanley did a great job leading this group. The only defeat Iowa has produced against Wisconsin, but the next few weeks are going to be tougher with matches against Maryland, the Penn State and the Purdue.
23. Cincinnati (6-0, 2-0 American)

The return of the Bearcats had a week off, but their undefeated start certainly helped the American Athletics Conference in its quest for greater national respect. Luke Fickell did a good job in bringing back this program. The next step is a difficult division match at Temple.
24. State of Utah (5-1, 2-0 at Mountain West)
Result week 7: Vanquished UNLV 59-28
And after: Wyoming (Saturday, 2:30 pm ET)
Since they almost thwarted Michigan State in the first week, the Aggies have won five straight wins. In five wins, they scored 40 points or more. And at present, it is the state of Utah that sits alone at the top of the Mountain Division's Mountain Mountain rankings.
25. Washington State (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12)

And after: vs Oregon (Saturday, 7:30 pm ET)
The Pumas watched Washington's defeat and the opening of Pac-12 North. They are one of four teams tied atop the standings at 2-1, making this match three games in a row against Oregon, Stanford and Cal even more critical. If Washington State wins them all, it controls its fate of Pac-12 championship game.
