The Baltimore Ravens have a tough relationship with the NFL rulebook, and Wednesday's developments will certainly not solve anything.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the NFL fined the Ravens $ 200,000 for "violations of coaching communication policy" during this year's pre-season games.
By Rapoport, Baltimore had several players on the field at the same time wearing helmets with a communication system between coaches. The league rules allow a single player on each side of the ball – usually a quarterback in attack and a linebacker or defense safety – to be on the field with special helmets, marked with a sticker green.
The Ravens issued a statement claiming that they were unaware of their offense.
It's not clear who the two players were on the field at the same time, and it was pre-season games, so the breach did not really matter much. But that's certainly not Baltimore's first clash with NFL law.
The team was forced to cancel the 2016 team's activities after allowing rookies to wear full chips in minicamps, which contravenes the league's collective agreement. He broke the rules again this summer, incurring fines totaling $ 150,000 for seemingly granting too much contact during free trade.
Ironically, the Ravens also opposed other teams that repeatedly broke the rules, twice selecting the New England Patriots. But coach John Harbaugh's club is once again on the side of the rules, and as a repeat offender, it pays a heavy price.
