All NFL games in Week 4, except one, are in the books. Let us distribute notes …
Dallas 26, Detroit 24
Cowboys, Grade: A-
The team we saw on Sunday looked more like the 2016 Cowboys than the 2017 version of the team. Dak Prescott was efficient and Ezekiel Elliott dominated behind an equally impressive performance of the offensive line. The defense played well without Sean Lee on the field.
Lions, Grade: C +
The Lions offense was just not punctured, largely because of the blocking of the passes. Detroit still managed to accumulate a lot of points thanks to some big games. It was as if Lions had to make a fantastic effort for every job done. The defensive front was defeated by Dallas in the first leg.
Tennessee 26, Philadelphia 23 (OT)
Titans, Grade: B-
Maybe the Titans deserve a higher score for defeating the defending Super Bowl champions, but it was not a complete performance. Marcus Mariota was a different quarterback in the second half after a difficult start. He did not have much help during the running, which continues to disappoint. The defensive front continues to be the team's rock, but the high school must play better than it did against the Eagles. Tennessee has not really set up a full performance and stays at 3-1.
Eagles, Grade: C +
The good news: Carson Wentz looked lively at his second start. The bad news: the rest of the team was rather sloppy. The pass rush played well, but the defense, as a whole, missed too many attacks. The secondaries (especially Jalen Mills) were completely crushed by an overwhelming Titans body. The receivers of the Eagles have left a lot of passes. And the offensive line was not as dominant as a season ago. This continued in Tennessee on Sunday.
Houston 37, Indianapolis 34 (OT)
Texans, Grade: B +
Watching a J.J. Healthy Watt and Jadeveon Clowney have wreaked havoc on the Colts line. It was a joy to watch. Watching the secondary fight to follow a missing receiver body, T.Y. Hilton for part of the game? Not really. The injured Texans, including Deshaun Watson, looked fantastic Sunday, and the team eventually won a match. No need to dwell on the negatives. Thank you, Frank Reich.
Colts, Grade: B
It's easy to look at the score and defeat the defensive, but it would be unfair for a unit that continues to play well. The attack offered Houston half of those points with turnovers. On the other side of the ball, Andrew Luck looks like the luck of the time. If I were a fan of the Colts, I would be encouraged by this difficult defeat and happy to have a coach ready to take the chance that Reich takes in OT.
Seattle 23, Arizona 20
Seahawks, Grade: B-
Of course, the Seahawks won, but they needed Phil Dawson to miss two goals and the Cardinals receivers forget how to catch the football to win a win against what could be the worst team in the league. And with Earl Thomas spending for the season – and perhaps ending his career as a Seahawks with a raised middle finger – this one must feel like a loss. The passing game still looks like a mixed mess, but at least the running game has shown life.
Cardinals, grade: B-
The Cardinals have now lost two games that they could easily have won, but Arizona fans should wake up happy Monday morning. Looks like they have a franchise quarterback. Nobody noticed this, but Josh Rosen's first start to the season was much more impressive than the beginnings of Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. Statistics do not look good because the Cardinals have left at least five impressive shots.
Chicago 48, Tampa Bay 10
Bears, Grade: A +
Mitch Trubisky finally took advantage of all open receivers that Matt Nagy was organizing and the result was a historic day for the Bears offensive. The Chicago defense, which has improved every week, has achieved its best performance. Trubisky will not hit six touchdowns each week, but as long as he's playing (and Nagy continues to outsmart the defensive coordinators), the Bears will be hard to beat.
Buccaneers, grade: F
The Bucs could have had a better chance if Dirk Koetter had read FTW. Unfortunately, it lasted a week with Ryan Fitzpatrick and it cost his team a chance to compete with the Bears. Fitz was imprecise and just overwhelmed by the Chicago race. On the other hand, the attack did not reach 48 points, no matter who was behind the center. The Tampa Bay defense seems to be the worst in the league.
Green Bay 22, Buffalo 0
Packers, Grade: A-
We will not judge the offensive as hard as Aaron Rodgers after the match. The Packers should probably have scored more than 22 points, but the offensive was still able to move the ball and Rodgers was much more mobile than in the third week. It was the Bills, but the Green Bay defense deserves praise for a complete performance. .
Bills, category: F
Josh Allen and the Bills crashed on Earth. The "only" defense gave up 22 points, but the call from the Packers players, who was questioned by Rodgers after the match, had more to do with that than the Buffalo defense. And Josh Allen looked more like a quarter than we expected to see last week in Minnesota: inaccurate and panicked in the pocket.
Jacksonville 31, New York Jets 12
Jaguars, Grade: A
When Blake Bortles is accurate, as it was Sunday, the Jaguars are the best team in the league. It helps when the opposing defense can not rush, but Bortles has the merit of being patient and hitting the open man. The Jaguars defense has just continued to dominate the league.
Jets, Grade: D-
We did not give the Jets a failing score, but we will give their game plan on both sides of the ball, a F. Offensively, they asked too much of Sam Darnold, who played well despite some decisions questionable. Defensively, New York made things easier for Bortles by allowing him to hit the most comfortable shots. Basically, the opposite of what the Titans did in week 3.
New Orleans 33, New York Giants 18
Saints, Grade: A-
Perhaps the defense of the Saints is not a lost cause. He played his best game of the season on Sunday, eventually eliminating errors on the backend and not giving up big winnings. And Drew Brees could be the best quarterback in the league right now. He certainly plays like that.
Giants, Grade: D
Did the Saints' defense play well or did the Giants fail to take advantage of what was a vulnerable second in New Orleans? It's hard to rely on the TV movie, but New York's approach to the passing game has been extremely conservative. At one point, Odell Beckham had 17 yards on FIVE catches? How is it possible? The Silver Line: The Giants' defense continues to play decent football. He did a good job against the Saints attack until the fourth quarter.
New England 38, Miami 7
Patriots, Grade: A
Stop declaring dead Patriots in September. It will always end up looking silly. How did we not learn this lesson yet? Anyway, Tom Brady and the offensive have escaped against a Dolphins defense. More importantly, it seems that Bill Belichick will be able to cobble up a decent defense of spare parts with which he works on this side of the ball. That's all the Patriots need and Brady needs to get back his safety cover, Julian Edelman, from the suspension next week.
Dolphins, grade: F
Just a complete failure on both sides of the ball. That Brock Osweiler entered the game with 10 minutes remaining tells you everything you need to know about offensive performance. The defense eventually came up against a team that was not determined to set the race – even though the Patriots were successful on the field – and Miami high school was exposed.
Cincinnati 37, Atlanta 36
Bengals, Grade: B +
Cincinnati did not achieve the best defensive performance, but Atlanta will give everyone points this season. And the Bengals presented a handful of bags in a timely manner. It's hard to draw conclusions based on offensive performance – the Falcons' defense is a little at a disadvantage if you're not aware – but Andy Dalton looks good, which in the past has led to one place in the playoffs.
Falcons, grade: B
Steve Sarkisian seems to have understood the situation just in time for the Falcons defense to implode! Good timing. The injuries destroyed what could have been a Super Bowl competitor. The defeats of Keanu Neal, Deion Jones and Ricardo Allen were felt against a Bengal attack that did everything possible in Atlanta. On the bright side, Calvin Ridley looks terribly good.
Los Angeles 29, 49ers of San Francisco 27
Chargers, Grade: B +
The Chargers offense continues to play well, but it's time to start worrying for the defense, which seems a bit too dependent on Joey Bosa's speed. The failures in the secondary teams and unreliable continues to cost this team with the aspirations of the Super Bowl.
49ers, Grade: B-
C.J. Beathard is not Jimmy G, but he looks competent enough to lead Kyle Shanahan's great plan and keep the 49ers competitive. The defense remains a work in progress, but it will be better than what he had against the Chargers.
Oakland 45, Cleveland 42 (OT)
Raiders, Grade: C +
The defense continues to struggle and Derek Carr has missed too many shots, but Jon Gruden has proven that the NFL has not passed. He continues to make good games that his players have trouble performing. If the Raiders had been stronger, they may have scored 50 points on Sunday.
Browns, Grade: C +
Baker Mayfield played as a rookie, turning the ball four times (even if at least one of them was clearly not his fault) and keeping the Raiders in a match that they probably should have lost. I am not too concerned about the fact that the defense is giving up as many points. Oakland had a ton of possessions and turnovers put the Cleveland defense in tough spots.
Baltimore 26, Steelers 14
Ravens, Grade: A
Are the Ravens the best team in the AFC? This is a serious question. They certainly looked like Pittsburgh. Joe Flacco plays the best football of his career. The current game seems solid behind a good offensive line. The defense kept its promises and closed the door of the most talented attack in the league. Outside the first half in Cincinnati on a Thursday night, Baltimore was dominant.
Steelers, Grade: D +
Pittsburgh could be the worst team in AFC North. It's certainly the least balanced. The Steelers 'defense has allowed the Ravens' offense to go up and down the field on Sunday night, and the offense, which has borne so much of the charge over the past five years, only seems not able to follow week after week. . The Steelers must have a chance to win. it was far from perfect against Baltimore.
Los Angeles 38, Minnesota 31
Rams, Grade: A
The Rams are the best football team. The offensive went through the Vikings' defense as if it were not there. The defense gave up a lot of points, but it was also missing Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters was not 100%. If the team of Sean McVay plays more closely to its objectives, it is unbeatable.
Vikings, Grade: B +
There is no shame in losing to the best NFL team on the road just four days after playing a game. The last two defensive performances of Minnesota are certainly troubling, but Mike Zimmer will realize it. The attack rebounded after all that the performance was against the Bills.
