The madman is scared. We are not afraid to admit it. We are scared, at least with regard to the fantastic investments we have made in Raven players.
And as quarterback Joe Flacco is back this week – and who knows if he'll get back to the starting position when he's in good health – we expect these fears to materialize for at least one more game.
Rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson was thrilling to watch. The option offense of going back is fascinating. Jackson's abilities to maximize such a game plan are exceptional and impressive. But like watching a summer blockbuster with fantastic effects but an absurd plot, Baltimore's Sunday strategy has left the fantastic owners of various other Ravens feeling dissatisfied.
First of all, and we can not say it loud enough: where is Alex Collins!?!?! Fantasy owners are waiting patiently for Collins to receive a steady workload from coach John Harbaugh. In a good confrontation, with a very busy game plan, these actions were won by unprepared rookie Gus Edwards.
Edwards had 17 attempts – a Collins total over only twice this season – and he had 115 yards and a touchdown. Collins had only 18 yards in seven races, but he scored.
It can be hard to guess what coaches are going to do, as Harbaugh has been showing us for years in regards to running. But we did not see it either with this type of QB, leading this type of offensive and successful combination.
So, although we have reservations to trust any new RB under Harbaugh's watch, Edwards represents the type of upside potential that we rarely find on the abandonment cables as late, so use your budget for that he hopes that Harbaugh will stick to this plan as long as Flacco will be away. And if you have Collins, sit on it until new order.
Fancy carnage does not end in the backfield, however. Major receivers John Brown and Michael Crabtree do not win leagues for anyone, but they are eligible players who served as whimsical replacements in the week or in the short term – both averaging only 10 points PPR per week.
On Sunday, Brown had a shot on one goal, the two lowest of the season, for a mere 23 yards. He now has three straight games with 30 yards or less, after averaging 84.5 over the first four games of the season. Crabtree got one of three targets for just 7 yards – the lowest of the season.
Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for those who have Willie Snead on their list – he captured five of the eight targets for 51 yards. But Jackson only tried 19 passes, but only 13. This is not a pass game that will always generate useful fancy numbers.
What about Jackson? Is it worth it to buy? He was tied for 11th place in the fantastic QBs production before Monday's match. And this is a week when six teams were exempted and a week when he probably reached his cap. There are other more reliable options.
Go get Edwards, but take a pass on Jackson.
Go catch them
Dontrelle Inman WR, Colts
Coaches expressed their enthusiasm for the idea of acquiring Inman last month. He has averaged 5.7 targets since his use of the last three games. And the Colts offensive rolls.
Bruce Ellington WR, Lions
In his Detroit debut, Ellington immediately took on the role of Lions No. 2 receiver behind Kenny Golladay. Fill well while Marvin Jones is out.
Marcell Ateman WR, Raiders
Someone has to catch some passes for Oakland, right? With Jordy Nelson and now Brandon LaFell, and the unreliability of Martavis Bryant heals a knee injury, Ateman will get more shots.
Cameron Brate TE, the buccaneers
With Jameis Winston recovering the QB job, Brate is back on the radar based on the connection with Winston. Brate gets a bigger boost if O.J. Howard (ankle) runs out of time.
Take a pass
Eli Manning QB, the giants
Have played well in recent weeks, but you worry about his upcoming schedule. He has exceeded 20 fancy points once per season. Leave someone else looking for him.
Onta Foreman RB, Texans
Recently activated from the PUP's list on his return from an injury to Achilles. This is perhaps the best budget for Texans, but do not expect a tremendous impact this season.
Courtland Sutton WR, Broncos
In two games since the trade of Demaryius Thomas, its production and use have not increased. The high hopes that it would become a legitimate fantasy option have not been realized.
John Ross WR, Bengals
He scored two weeks in a row and will be a target of waiver for some according to that. Let them have it. Ross has only 11 catches all year, with four touchdowns. This is not a sustainable rate of TD. In addition, A.J. The green will return.
