The AFI Fest launched Thursday evening its opening gala with the creation of On the basis of sex, biopic on Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Felicity Jones embodies the iconic Supreme Court Justice, describing her when she was a young lawyer fighting discrimination on the basis of sex.
The celebration tone of the evening was tainted by the news that Ginsburg, 85, had fallen victim to a fall in her office the same day as the first, which had forced her to break three ribs. Jones said that she had checked her condition with Daniel Stipelaman, the film's screenwriter and Ginsburg's nephew.
"I spoke to his nephew, Daniel, and he said that he had talked to his aunt and that she was hungry and that she was anxious to return to work."
After spending time with Ginsburg, Jones told Vulture that it was not a haunting legal soliloquy or a burning opinion of the Supreme Court that impressed him the most, but rather how justice had unveiled a small gift.
"She's incredibly careful about everything. I offered her a gift from someone from the decor and it was about these beautiful lace gloves … and she opened them, as well as the care with which she did it, and l & rsquo; The attention and appreciation that she had for this gift had just told me so much about Ruth. The care and deliberations she takes and the seriousness of the responsibility she has. I could see even in those little moments, that's all for her. She does not take anything for granted for a single second. "
