LONDON – A second customer of the restaurant chain Pret a Manger has died after eating a sandwich containing an allergen not listed on the label, the company confirmed.

The coffee and sandwich industry has promised to improve its labeling following criticism in a judicial inquiry into the death of 15-year-old Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who died in 2016 after eating a Pret baguette containing traces of sesame.

The company said an investigation was underway on a second case, in which a client died in December after eating a supposedly dairy-free product containing dairy proteins.

Ready to eat has blamed a supplier of its dairy-free yogurt. But the supplier, CoYo, said Sunday that this allegation was "unfounded".

Ednan-Laperouse's parents, who campaign for harsher warnings about allergens, said they were "incredibly saddened to learn that someone else lost their lives because allergens in their food ".
