Ready-to-eat salads made by small suppliers across the country are being recalled as they could be contaminated with listeria or salmonella, the US Department of Agriculture announced Friday.
Suppliers from Florida, California, Washington, Oregon and Texas have recalled compound salads sold at retailers such as Trader Joe, Walmart, 7-Eleven and Whole Foods, announced the USDA.
Nobody was reported sick. However, suppliers of some ingredients reported that salads may have been contaminated. All salads contain meat such as chicken or pork.
Some of the salads are wrapped and others are in plastic kits, said the USDA's Food Security Information Service (FSIS). A complete list is on his website.
"There have been no confirmed cases of adverse effects related to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider, "said the USDA.
The concern is that some products may be in consumer refrigerators. The food security group urges people not to consume them. "These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase," FSIS said.
