Recap of "The Voice": Kirk Jay, Sarah Grace – Live Playoffs, Top 24

[ad_1]

S- just become real on The voice. In the busy Monday episode, Blake Shelton's 24-member team, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine sang for a spot in the top 12 – or rather the Top 13 since a competitor The stage of the return (probably Lynnea Moorer) would also gain a place in training Tuesday.

Before watching the performances, I imagined that the singers who would advance would be (in alphabetical order): Dave Fenley, Natasia GreyCloud, Fortson Patriarch, Sarah Grace, Kennedy Holmes, Kirk Jay, Joy Kymberli, Chris Kroeze, Michael Lee RADHA , SandyRedd and Reagan Strange. But then, anyone's assumptions were as good as mine. After all, I would never have imagined arriving at the playoffs without Tyshawn Colquitt and Mikele Buck – and with Tyke James and Steve Memmolo. (Why, Adam? Why?!?)

So, which of the 24 best justified my self-confidence, and which of them gave performances that suggested that I had to get used to the feeling of egg on my face? Keep reading – we'll review their efforts, then you can vote for your favorite and click on the comments with your own Top 12 predictions.

TEAM BLAKE

the voice-recap-kirk-jay-sarah-grace-playoffs-top-24Michael Lee, "Every time I roll the dice" – Note: B- | From the first few lines that Michael tore up, he had the impression of sending a message: "Relax, my friends, that's what I understood." But, even if he had the chance, air at home on the stage, the song did not let him become so wild. I thought that he needed to secure a place in the Top 12. He would always get there, I imagined, but it was not the slam dunk that I expected from him.

Dave Fenley, "An angel flying too close to the ground" – Note: C | I usually love it when Dave takes the sweetest and most serious path. He has a natural sincerity that really helps him sell this type of number. Here, however, his performance is a little flat, not really taking shape until his voice grows towards the end. Hate to say it, but he could be in trouble.

Natasia GrayCloud, "God is a woman" – Grade: C- | The wrong song choice might have sentenced Natasia here. She could sing the phone book and still make it look good. But "very good" did not bring her to the finals. Why did not she do something more blue? It seemed to me that she did not look much like her toughness until the ad-libby dramas towards the end of her performance.

Chris Kroeze, "Have you ever seen the rain?" – Grade: B | Finally, a good match of singer and song. Chris looked so comfortable and quite "good" on his Creedence Clearwater Revival cover that I would be surprised not to have played it because he was tall enough to hold a microphone. Not a success in itself, but solid as hell.

Funsho, "How Long" – Grade: C | "Average" is the word that Funsho's performance evoked. It was not a disaster; from time to time, he has struck very beautiful sections; and there was a memorable high note to this place. However, sometimes dubious phrasing and a generally unimpressive voice seemed to me out of the competition.

Kirk Jay, "One More Day" – Grade: B- | After Kirk's touching and moving performance in the Knockouts, I was eager to hear him again. This performance made me wonder why. It was good, but it was not "In case you did not know it". Still, it was pretty polite – and I thought he had enough momentum behind him – to get him into the Top 12 without much trouble.

KELLY TEAM

https://tvline.com/2018/11/12/the-voice-recap-kirk-jay-sarah-grace-playoffs-top-24/Abby Cates, "Beside Me" – Grade: D | From the beginning, Abby's youth and lack of experience have shown. She seemed fragile and a bit dapper, and did not seem to understand that if she bounced during her performance, it would have a negative impact on her voice. Unfortunately, it did not improve as it went, it became even worse. I was ready for it to be finished well before it was finished.

Keith Paluso, "Someone Like You" – Grade: D- | The ranger is an adorable guy, I hate hating his performance. Alas, I did it. Adele's cover was as shocking as Bob Dylan, without Dylan's genius to catch up. It was so hot that I almost wished the series had its usual technical difficulties to be able to give an excuse. Yuck.

Sarah Grace, "When something is wrong with my baby" – Note: A- | After these last two performances, I was particularly relieved to be able to join Sarah. As she is usually, she was so much. Freakin '. Brilliant. And despite her faultlessness, she sounded sincere, as if she meant every word she sang. Forget the Top 12, send it directly to the Final Four.

Zaxai, "When I need you" – Grade: C | OK, I'll admit that Zaxai had not even finished singing on the front line before saying, "Oh, my God." That did not turn out so bad. The song should be the main attraction of a grilled cheese, but Zaxai nevertheless encountered some pretty spots during his performance and unleashed the kind of falsetto that always seems to make coaches completely crazy.

Chevel Shepherd, "Grandpa (Tell me the good old days)" – Grade: B- | The way Chevel sang her first "grandfather" made me think, "She has that." And for the most part, she did it. This is not a performance I will remember in two weeks. – but it was enough for the teenager to enter the Top 12.

Kymberli Joye, "Radioactive" – Grade: B- | Hmm … another dubious song choice. Kymberli is a ridiculously powerful singer. However, the success of Imagine Dragons did not live up to its strengths. Yes, she managed to increase the volume enough often to be in the Top 12, but it seemed like work. A different figure would have made it a much more efficient and effortless showcase.

ADAM TEAM

https://tvline.com/2018/11/12/the-voice-recap-kirk-jay-sarah-grace-playoffs-top-24/Steve Memmolo, "More Today Than Yesterday" – Grade: C | Everything about Steve reminds me why I do not go to karaoke bars. He looks like one of those guys who is sure to be a better singer than he really is. His voice was not horrible here – from time to time, it was even rather pleasant – but the Ben Affleck look-alike himself? Sorry, just no. I can not.

DeAndre Nico, "Ordinary People" – Grade: A- | Until Monday night, I was sort of taking or leaving about DeAndre. After Monday night? Definitely "take it". His performance went from intimate to powerful without wasting time, and was actually so strong that it was more in line with what I expected from Kirk Jay. (It even helped me forget about Kelly's D-sasters.)

RADHA, "Dusk Till Dawn" – Grade: C + | Adam described the voice of this belter born as "nine feet tall". And remembering his blind audition that made the roof shake, I agree with this assessment. Here, unfortunately, it only sounds about six feet (and a bit dapper here and there too). I was afraid she was in danger of being eliminated.

Kameron Marlowe, "I will not live like this anymore" – Level: B | After smelling reggae in the Knockouts, Kameron returned to the country-rock form for play-offs and sounded undeniable in his element. Was it an exciting performance? Not really. But it was solid, and since his competition included weak links like Steve and Tyke James, I could not imagine not to access the Top 12.

Tyke James, "Use Somebody" – Grade: D | When Adam described Tyke's voice as having "a soul without effort," I thought, "He really should make an effort, then." Here, he looked as depressing and unclear as ever. So maybe he was smart to have spent a few moments sitting close enough to the public to let him apply makeup – his only chance must be to be a very large number of viewers finding him hot.

Reagan Strange, "Worth It" – Note: C- | Reagan is very attractive and has a big voice. The problem is that, in this case, this beautiful and big voice was terribly fragmented and really hurt what could have been a great performance. She seemed to know it too – did you notice that look on her face as she was finishing? Will be interesting to see if it or RADHA advance (since I guess DeAndre and Kameron are locks).

JENNIFER TEAM

https://tvline.com/2018/11/12/the-voice-recap-kirk-jay-sarah-grace-playoffs-top-24/Patriot Fortson, "Is not Nobody" – Grade: B + | Patric started ringing so loud that I did not let myself be distracted by his shimmering beard and his incredible Technicolor coat. And he seemed to have such an explosion that it was hard not to get carried away. Vocally, it was a bit messy – a "wow" minute, the next "zzz". But overall, well.

MaKenzie Thomas, "I believe in you and me" – Note: A- | This is the moving and emotional performance that MaKenzie has always sought. Without a doubt the best I have ever heard of turning to a chair. (That even earned him the shoe of JHud.) But, ironically, it also revealed the limits of MaKenzie: when the song became fat, his voice could only approach, not quite, the massiveness that would have been ideal.

West Franc, "Apologize" – Grade: B- | This guy is an artist at the marrow. I was not a fan after the blinds. But once I got it, I had it to a great extent. I was therefore disappointed not to have been blown away by his coverage of OneRepublic. He began to feel it as much as to sing it and ended up singing with a disarming vulnerability. Between the two, however, it was a bit of a mess, more sloppy and hopeless than a singer as talented as he should be.

SandyRedd, "No more drama" – Grade: B | Do not think we've ever heard the human hurricane sing with as much subtlety and restraint as when it started taking over Mary J. Blige – and it was pretty cool. But the dynamo wisely accumulated as the song reached its dramatic conclusion, playing its strength like a ball of vocal shock and, in so doing, inspiring JHud's second run of the night's boot.

Colton Smith, "Afraid of Being Alone" – Grade: C | In search of his new title, Colton began to be moved and affected, then improved as he reached the huge notes of the number, which seem to be where he lives and breathes. He even nailed a mammoth at the end as memorable as his shimmering jacket. Still, it was at best "Eh, everything is fine". Not as bad as some Monday but not good enough, no more.

Kennedy Holmes, "Halo" – Grade: B | I do not think it's a coincidence that the show saved Kennedy for the last time – it's probably the best of the season 15 (and a sure bet for the final four, not to mention the top 12). It was not her best performance – she moved more than she was conducive to a flawless voice and was a little spruce on the big note intended to bring down the house. But his talent and his promise remained undeniable. She will go far.
