"Land of hope and dreams" of Bruce Springsteen's next album Springsteen at Broadway (scheduled for December 14), may not be a song you hope to hear at his Tony Award-winning Broadway show. It's one of his most anthemic songs, usually played on a large scale, with a full band in front of a large crowd.
But this version, performed in the intimate drama Walter Kerr, narrows the song to Springsteen's voice. The guitar keeps the pace, but it's all about words.

"Land of Hope and Dreams" is the penultimate song of the Broadway show, an uplifting end of day featuring many heartbreaking stories of characters – including Springsteen himself – who fall into l & # 39; isolation. Rooted in the evangelistic chant "This Train" and the evangelistic tube "People Get Ready" from 1965, "The Land of Hope and Dreams" imagine a common train where all are welcome – saints, sinners, whores, players, thieves, lost souls, fools, kings, heartbroken – as he heads for an unknown future. It's a Springsteen classic: grandiose, upbeat, witty and open enough to be embraced by a wide audience. The registered version, on 2012 wrecking ball, incorporates a section of "People Get Ready" in the coda, highlighting the call to action of the song.
Springsteen played "Land of Hope and Dreams" often at charity concerts and political rallies, including during Barack Obama's campaign stops in the 2012 presidential election. That does not seem to be a coincidence he's published on the eve of the mid-term elections and wrestles with a period of division and violence in American life. It's an affirmation that we are all in the same boat.
Springsteen at Broadway released on December 14 Columbia Records.
