Red-flag fire warnings are in effect in parts of the Bay Area this weekend, under the effect of drought and strong winds, announced today the Service. National Meteorological Service.
The monitored areas are the East Bay Hills, the Diablo Range, which connects the bay to the Salinas Valley and the North Bay Mountains.
Moderate to strong north winds, ranging from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph, are expected to develop after sunset today, increasing during the night and up to 30 mph. Sunday morning.
The North Bay Red Flag warning applies to the more than 1,000-foot mountains of Sonoma, Marin and Napa counties. The warning is in effect until 9 am on Monday.

"The winds should not be as strong as they were a year ago," said Suzanne Sims, a weather forecaster at the National Weather Service in the North Bay Mountains. "Even in this case, the conditions meet the criteria of the warning by red flag."
Recent rains have reduced the risk of fire, but "even with this rain, gusting winds will still blow during the night and we will see a drying out, especially tomorrow night," Sims said.
Captain Mitchell Matlow announced today that the San Jose fire department had increased its manpower in response to the red flag warning.
"The San Jose Fire Department urges everyone to exercise extreme caution in all activities conducted in and around natural areas," said Matlow.
