Chief Justice John Roberts, Judge Clarence Thomas, Judge Stephen Breyer and Attorney General Jeff Sessions attended the 66th Annual Red Mass at St. Matthew's Cathedral the Apostle, reported the agency Associated Press. Solicitor General Noel Francisco, senior counsel for the Supreme Court administration, also attended Mass.
Outside the cathedral, protesters doubled the street, drawing attention to Kavanaugh and allegations of sexual misconduct.
Senate Republicans had hoped to confirm Kavanaugh before the opening of the Supreme Court's Monday mandate. But the vote on Kavanaugh's appointment was delayed following allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in high school in the 1980s. The FBI is now investigating.
Becca Tanen was among the protesters who hoisted "Stop Kavanaugh" signs. She said she was there to support survivors of sexual assault and denounce Kavanaugh.
"I'm here to defend all the women, but especially the survivors," Tanen said.
Jesse Rabinowitz is held alongside Tanen and argued that victims of Catholic sexual assault are suspected, but a different narrative is occurring when it comes to accusations. against Kavanaugh.
"Just like after the year of the woman by Anita Hill, this is what will happen this year," said Rabinowitz.
