Red Sox fan strikes Giancarlo Stanton of the Yankees after relaunching the ball (video)

BOSTON – Giancarlo Stanton has been plunked many times. But by his own running ball at home?

The New York Yankees star flew over the Green Monster in Saturday's 8-5 win in the seventh inning of the Boston Red Sox. Stanton then had a big surprise from a well-armed supporter while he was at the second goal of Fenway Park.

A man wearing a black T-shirt raised the memory of his first row over the left field wall and the ball jumped and bounced on Stanton.

"I would not have thought it would happen so quickly with a fan who threw it," Stanton said. "I have never seen this happen before, so it was not my first thought."

The slugger continued his trot, but turned his head, smiled and seemed to lean his cap toward the fan.

"He had it until then, had his target, he had problems for that," Stanton said. "I think it's going both ways."

The match was briefly interrupted as the referees gathered near the third base line to indicate the fan to the stadium security officials.

"You see a lot of things in these games," said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. "I think some places are traditional, they land on the ground and they should probably stay there."

Stanton's solo, the 266th of the Yankees' season, gave him his 100th RBI of the season. Gleyber Torres hit a two-run homer in the fourth period to take the best of the Yankees with the Seattle Mariners in 1997 in a single season in league history.

"It was cool for me," Stanton said. "A lot of interesting things happened for our team today, so it was a good day."
