Brock Holt is alone in the history of baseball.
The Boston Red Sox's infielder became the first player in the history of the MLB to play for the cycle in a playoff game.
He completed the feat in the ninth round of the Red Sox 16-1 match 3 rout rival New York Yankees, hitting a two-run homer against Austin Romine – a receiver called to launch the final round of the event.
"You're a little upset when a player stands on the mound," said Holt. "I was trying to hit a home run. It was probably the first time I did that.
Holt earned a double RBI score in the eighth inning and a single as well as a three-point triple in the big fourth round of the Red Sox, which opened the game.
"This one, I'll remember for a long time," said Holt, who was unaware of his exploits until a journalist told him at the time. 39, an interview in the field. "Obviously, you do not get into the game – story or something like that."
Holt made his playoff debut in Game 3.
"He beats the bat a while now," said Alex Cora, Red Sox coach. "We felt the match was good for him."
Was it ever.
