Mark Sanchez will have another chance to hold a clipboard.
The quarterback has signed with the Washington Redskins to support Colt McCoy, the team announced Monday.
Sanchez was removed from the NFL's line of sight after the Redskins discovered a crowd of people who called after Alex Smith's devastating leg injury in Sunday's Houston Texans defeat. The team placed Smith on the injured reserve on Monday.
For Rapoport, the Washington training session included luminaries such as EJ Manuel, Kellen Clemens, T.J. Yates and Josh Johnson.
Landing on Sanchez is not a surprise. The 32-year-old quarterback knows several assistants from Washington going back to his time with the New York Jets. Redskins OC Matt Cavanaugh was the Sanchez QB coach of 2009-2012; The offensive line coach, Bill Callahan, was with N.Y. at that time; and Kevin O 'Connell, the current match coordinator, was the reserve quarterback of the Jets for two years when Sanchez led the team.
Sanchez has been mired in the free agent market after serving a four-game PED suspension early in the season. He spent 2017 as a caddy for Mitch Trubisky in Chicago and in 2016 as a substitute in Dallas. The nine-year-old started his match in 2015 for the Philadelphia Eagles.
After the start of McCoy, Sanchez should see the field only in case of injury. The Redskins play the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, so the QB backup has not been slow to get in sync if another A Washington player is suffering from an injury.
Fun fact: the last game Sanchez started was the 2015 Thanksgiving Day in Detroit – a 45-14 loss. And we all know the most infamous moment of QB Turkey Day.
Take a slice of pie, friends, and gather around the television to see if Mr. Sanchez has a chance to experience memorable Thanksgiving moments with which we feast.
