Brock Lesnar has been Universal Champion for over a year now, but WWE SummerSlam 2018 is expected to see the end of his long and sporadic reign.
Brock Lesnar won the Goldberg Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33. Since then, he has defeated Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman and, more recently, Roman Reigns.
Lesnar actually defeated Reigns in a multi-player match at SummerSlam last year, defeated Reigns at WrestleMania 34, and he escaped with a win against the Big Dog at the Greatest Royal Rumble , also
Despite these three losses, Roman Reigns still has his eyes locked on the World Championship. After all, he technically beat Lesnar at the Greatest Royal Rumble, but the referee made the wrong choice. So he has legitimacy and a cause for revenge.
However, he is not the only one to deserve a shot at the Brock World Championship, which is why Kurt Angle originally planned a multi-player game at Extreme Rules for
Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley was first announced as a participant, and I imagine that Finn Bálor and Kevin Owens, two Superstars who still technically need a rematch for the World Championship, would be in the game. And after Seth Rollins lost the intercontinental championship, I thought his views would be set on this contender match # 1, but the plans have changed.
The match was dropped after WWE, contract disputes between Brock Lesnar and WWE officials forced Lesnar to abandon his title defense planned at SummerSlam. It sounds like a tactic for fans to get tired of Brock Lesnar and get an attitude of "someone else than Brock", so when Brock loses the title, there will be a big pop.
I still think Brock Lesnar SummerSlam before he's adventure at the UFC, so the only question is who deserves to be the challenger? Lashley is a believable MMA fighter who would pose a credible threat, but I do not think he's ready for the title yet.
Meanwhile, Finn, Kevin Owens and Rollins are all Superstars able to make an incredible match with The Beast and will be great champions. WWE could also experiment with rising star Elias or Glorious Bobby Roode and give them a big helping hand by dethroning one of them by Brock
However, the best option, in my opinion (and I can be the only one), whoever will dethrone Brock Lesnar should be Roman Reigns. The fans have really ransacked any PPV program that Reign has had recently, but Roman will probably have a positive reaction when he finally takes the Lesnar title for the simple reason that Brock will not have the title.
Then, Reigns will be able to be a single champion who will be able to play both the face and the heel in any quarrel, which will allow him to face all comers . He may have programs with Kevin Owens, Elias and Constable Corbin, while playing the role of heel against the best babyfaces like Seth Rollins and Finn Bálor
Then, once Dean Ambrose back, anything can happen. Ambrose could come back a heel or face and a rivalry with Reigns or Rollins, and everything could be on the World Championship. But, while all these quarrels would be big, there's a good reason why Roman should win the SummerSlam Brock title.
Imagine the reaction that Braun Strowman would get if he cased Roman Reigns. It should not be at SummerSlam (although it would be great), but the Bank Monster will inevitably be the Universal Champion, so why not give it the strongest possible reaction by beating Te Big Dog for that.
And, he will not even have to return an ambulance to win it! However, I certainly would not be opposed to another Reigns and Strowman feud revolving around ambulances. Anyway, Roman deserves to be the next universal champion, even if the reign will be abbreviated by Braun.
