Remains found in the basement of New York could solve the decades-old mystery of the missing father

LAKE GROVE, N.Y. – A family mystery has not been solved for decades: a father of New disappeared in 1961 without a trace. Now, his adult children can get answers. The family found human remains by digging in their basement, reports CBS New York.

Michael Carroll said that he was a baby when his father, George Carroll, a veteran of the Korean War, disappeared. Since then, there have been intuitions and what Michael calls "awesome things", like seeing ghosts in the house, that the Carroll family has had since 1955.

The police said the family had always heard a rumor that he was buried in the basement, and began a few months ago to hear hearsay. Michael Carroll recently hired a ground penetrating radar expert to check for disturbances under the house. Actually, the family members started digging where the expert stopped, and this week, bones were found under the concrete in the basement.

"If it's not him, I'd be surprised," said Michael Carroll about his father.

He is waiting for confirmation of his DNA, but he hopes to have answers to his questions. He searched all his life.
