Reminder of 2.4 million pounds of taquitos due to possible contamination with salmonella and listeria

WASHINGTON – Ruiz Food Products Inc. recalls approximately 2,490,593 pounds of taquitos due to an onion-based ingredient, the US Department of Agriculture Food Inspection and Safety Service said.

Nationally recalled meat – and – poultry – ready taquitos were produced from July 1 to October 10, 2018.

The following taquitos are recalled:

  • 4.5 lb. Cardboard boxes containing Be-Go Taquitos brand "Beef and Cheese Taquitos" on a base of 24 counts with case code 86183 printed on the label.
  • 4.5 lb. Cardboard cases containing 24-Digit "Go-Go Taquitos" Buffalo-Baked Chicken Cooked Taquitos, with the 86006 case code printed on the label.
  • 4.5 lb of cardboard boxes containing "Chipotle Chicken Packed in a Beaten Tortilla" from Go-Go Taquitos, 24 digits, with case code 86019 printed on the label.

Frozen taquitos also carry establishment numbers "17523A or P-17523A" and "45694 or P-45694" in the USDA control mark.

The company found that the diced onions used in beef and cheese taquitos were potentially contaminated with listeria monocytogenes and salmonella.

Until now, no case of consumption reaction of taquitos has been confirmed, said the USDA.
