Reminder of nearly 100,000 pounds of ground beef on E's fears. Coli just before Thanksgiving

HYRUM, Utah – The Utah-based Swift Beef Co. recalls 99,260 pounds of raw ground beef products on possible E. coli contamination just in time for Thanksgiving, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

The meat products were manufactured at the end of last month and the potential contamination was confirmed last week.

The recalled products include bulk ground beef products manufactured October 24:

  • Bulk pallets of 2,000 lbs of Swift 81/19 (81% lean) ground beef containing a fine grind product with product code 42982.
  • 81/19 (81% lean) ground beef, coated with plastic, "BEEF blue ribbon" ground beef with product code 42410.
  • Ground Beef 93/07 (93% lean), plastic coated, "Blue Beef" plastic ground beef with product code 42413.
  • 8-10 lbs. – BEEF blue ribbon ground beef chubs packed in 85/15 (85% lean) plastic, coarse grind with product code 42415.
  • 8-10 pounds – 73/27 "BEEF blue ribbon" ground beef chubs coated with plastic (73% lean), coarse ground with product code 42510.

Potentially contaminated meat products have been shipped to California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Until now, no disease has been reported.

E. coli is a life-threatening bacterium that can cause dehydration, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
